On Saturday a crew of us decided to head up to Wow Plaza to kick off our cable riding for the season. This was the earliest I have ever ridden at a cable park but with a wetsuit, it wasn’t as cold as I thought.
Here are a few of the photos I snapped off during our second set.
Just when I was pretty proud of myself for hitting a metal handrail on a wakeboard, Raph goes and slides a metal chain (seriously… a chain?). The shot ended up becoming the cover of Alliance’s 100th issue.
Last season, I busted the fast track mounting system on my board. Happily, it was warrantied and I got a replacement board in the mail. With my busted one sitting in my basement, I decided that I would try to fix it up and use it winching instead of beating up my new board.
Remembering back to snowboarding in the 90’s, I decided to go buy t-bolts to fix it. (T-Bolts were used snowboarding back in the day so you could rock a gangsta stance) Even without the proper tools they fit in perfectly. I glued everything together with J.B. Weld, clamped it and then sanded off extra. The next day, I mounted up my bindings, went winching and it held up good so far.
With snowboarding season coming to a close, wakeboarding was on my mind, so yesterday the crew and I decided we would go riding.
We have always talked about winching in the canal and this year we finally decided to go for it. Since the canal hasn’t been filled yet, we decided that this would be a perfect time to do it. I talked to Half Cab builder and C.U.S.S. President Andy Marr about borrowing the Jibtest rail and bringing it to the locks near campus and he was stoked to help out. This all came together very last minute but turned into one of the best executed winch sessions to date.
The rail was super gnarly and ended up sending Charlie on a trip to the hospital but not until both him and I got some great photos and videos. Thanks to everyone that helped out on this mission, it was truly a team effort. I should have photos of the action up here shortly, so make sure to check back.
